The Department of Disease Control is a multidisciplinary, cross-cutting department, operating in a global context and committed to excellence in research, innovation, learning & engagement. We are looking to recruit a well-qualified statistician to work with multi-disciplinary international teams on research studies including:

  1. A case-control study of the risk of severe malaria in children after they have stopped receiving seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), seasonal vaccination with the RTS,S/AS01malaria vaccine or both interventions over a five year period in Mali and Burkina Faso
  2. The impact of a combination of the RTS,S/AS01E malaria vaccine and perennial malaria chemoprevention in Ghanaian children 
  3. Determining the optimal approach to deliver a malaria vaccine in seasonal transmission areas through phase 4 implementation research in Mali
  4. Determining the optimal approach to deliver a malaria vaccine in seasonal transmission areas through phase 4 implementation research in Guinea. This is an exciting opportunity to join important studies with direct relevance to public health. 

The post holder will be based in the UK, working with colleagues in the countries where these studies are based, and will have opportunities to visit partner institutions in Africa to support capacity development in statistics in these institutions when such visits are appropriate & safe.

The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate education in medical statistics and a demonstrated aptitude for applied research in medical statistics, experience of statistical packages such as Stata and R, and should have experience of working in multidisciplinary teams. Excellent analytical, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to take the initiative, to work both independently & collaboratively, and to confidently manage concurrent activities to meet agreed timelines.

The post is full-time & funded by projects supported by PATH, GiveWell & UKRI/EDCTP until 31 March 2028. The salary will be on the LSHTM scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,728 - £51,872 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). 

The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
