About Us

The Taams lab is one of 75+ research groups in the School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences (SIMS) at King’s College London. SIMS is one of six Schools in the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s and consists of four Departments: the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology, the Department of Infectious Diseases, the Department of Inflammation Biology and the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies. Collectively, the School conducts high-quality research, education and training in immunobiology, inflammation biology, infection and liver studies in the context of health and disease.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Taams Lab at King’s College London for a fixed-term period of 21 months. This exciting role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at uncovering the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive and regulate inflammation in human disease, with a particular focus on psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

The Taams lab investigates immune regulation within the local tissue microenvironment, with a strong emphasis on interactions between T cells, myeloid cells and stromal cells, and the role of key cytokine pathways such as IL‑17. The postholder will play a leading role in a multidisciplinary project examining type‑17 and other inflammatory immune cell subsets in human disease, including the identification of peripheral immune biomarkers in patients before and after anti‑IL‑17A therapy, as part of an MRC-funded collaborative project with Glasgow University.

You will design, lead and execute high‑quality wet‑lab and computational research, developing and optimising advanced cellular and molecular immunology assays. Techniques will include multi‑parameter (spectral) flow cytometry or mass cytometry, human cell isolation and culture, cytokine and protein analysis (Luminex/ELISA), qPCR, and bioinformatic analysis of bulk and single‑cell RNA‑sequencing and/or CyTOF datasets. You will be expected to analyse and interpret complex datasets, prepare results for presentation, and publish your findings in high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals.

The role also involves working collaboratively within a dynamic research environment, contributing actively to lab and project meetings, maintaining meticulous research records, and supporting the training and supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, as well as clinical fellows. All work involving human samples will be conducted in accordance with HTA and GCP regulations.

The position is based in the Centre for Inflammation Biology & Cancer Immunology, located next to London Bridge, offering a vibrant scientific and cultural environment. This role provides an excellent opportunity for career development within a leading immunology research centre at King’s College London.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 21 months.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the  Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. Visit the  Centre for Research Staff Development for more information.
