We are currently piloting a four-day working week which allows our colleagues to work 32 hours over 4 days week with no reduction in pay. The pilot is part of our ongoing efforts to create a positive and inclusive workplace that promotes work-life balance and allows our colleagues to thrive professionally and personally whilst maintaining our commitment to delivering high-quality service to all our students.

ABOUT THE TEAM AND THE ROLE
The Communications and Engagement Officer will join a small, collaborative team at the University of Sunderland in London, working closely with colleagues across both the London and Sunderland campuses. This varied role supports the creation of engaging content across digital and internal channels, alongside delivering events, supporting alumni engagement, and building external partnerships. Working with the Communications and Engagement Manager, the postholder will help enhance the university’s profile, strengthen relationships with students, staff, and external partners, and contribute to projects that support student recruitment, engagement, and the overall student experience.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring experience in internal and/or external communications, with a strong ability to create clear, engaging content across a range of digital platforms. You’ll be organised and proactive, comfortable managing multiple projects and working collaboratively with colleagues, students, and external partners. Strong written communication skills are essential, alongside a creative approach to storytelling and a willingness to seek out and use feedback, data, and insights to improve engagement. You’ll also enjoy delivering events and building relationships, and be motivated by contributing to a positive student experience in a fast‑paced higher education environment.
