We are seeking an experienced and reliable individual to provide comprehensive support to the Institute of Metabolic Science Lab Operations & Facilities Team.
The role will provide technical and administrative support for research activity to ensure the smooth running of the laboratories and research facilities of the IMS. If you have experience as a lab technician and in stores management, excel at multitasking, and possess exceptional communication skills, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
- Purchase laboratory supplies and minor equipment by placing orders using the finance system. Check supplies and specifications with end users, resolve issues with suppliers. Monitor consumable stock items and order replacement stock as required. Respond to enquiries and advise colleagues and customers about items held on stores inventory. Monitor delivery schedules for goods, check goods on arrival against delivery notes and orders, record deliveries, issue goods, maintain stock levels, update stock inventory information.
- Support the maintenance of the inventory system (PPMS). Assist in the preparation of stock takes. Arrange store space to maximise efficiency, ensure the tidiness and security of stores and take appropriate safety precautions.
- Assist the Laboratory Operations team for the smooth and efficient day to day operations of the Institute laboratories, ensuring minimal disruption and safely in multiple Institute locations. Assist with managing statutory maintenance, housekeeping and safety and sustainability (LEAF) in the research laboratories. Ensure safety regulations and relevant codes of practice are implemented.
- Dispose of chemical and biological waste in liaison with the University Safety Office and the disposal contractors.

Requirements:
- Proven experience in laboratory technician work and stock management.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills with an ability for prioritising tasks and consistently hitting deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of people internally and externally.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other essential software tools.
- Attention to detail; high degree of precision and accuracy.
- Ability to work in alone and as part of a dynamic team.
