The Role
Post holder will support the Treasury Team in managing the University’s financial transactions, including student fees, accommodation income, and other payments. Key responsibilities include processing and reconciling daily transactions, preparing journals and bank reconciliations, administering payments and refunds, supporting debt collection, and providing guidance on financial procedures. The role ensures compliance with University policies and contributes to accurate, efficient, and timely financial operations.
The Person
Essential:
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in financial administration, treasury, or transactional finance roles, with a strong track record of processing, reconciling, and maintaining high-volume financial transactions. They will be proficient in using financial systems and banking platforms such as Barclays, WPM, SagePay, and BACS, and demonstrate excellent numeracy, attention to detail, and accuracy in financial record-keeping. The role requires experience in preparing journals, completing bank reconciliations, and supporting month-end processes, alongside a solid understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and internal control procedures. Strong organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and clear communication with students, staff, and other stakeholders when handling financial queries are also essential.
Desirable:
The candidate will have experience working in a higher education or student-facing environment, with a good understanding of debt collection processes, including setting up and managing payment plans. They will be familiar with administering PDQ machines, petty cash, and other treasury functions, and have working knowledge of university financial policies and procedures. Strong competency in Microsoft Excel and other finance-related software is also required to support accurate and efficient financial administration.
Qualifications:
GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English (essential).
Relevant finance or accounting qualification (e.g., AAT) is desirable but not essential.
