This new part-time (0.5 FTE) post is available immediately on a permanent basis.
Summary of the role:
This part-time post is available within the University Technical Strategy and Operations team located at the Professor Jo Tarr Life Science Resource Centre. The post is part-time (0.5 FTE, 18.25 hours per week, Mon-Fri on a rota basis). Some start times of 8 am or finish times of 7 pm may be required.
The primary function of this role is to support the operational running of the Medical School Life Sciences Resource Centre (LSRC). The LSRC is a vital component of the students’ ‘learning landscape’ and is used for scheduled teaching and as a ‘drop-in’ resource centre for students to study by themselves.
The resource centre contains a variety of resources that assist students in learning anatomy and biomedical science. In addition to plastic models of anatomical structures, there are human bones and preserved human tissue specimens, clinical equipment, books and technology resources including AV equipment, tablets and laptops. Teaching sessions are structured around study materials hosted on an online study guide, the resources mentioned above and ‘living’ models (casual workers).
The role holder will work in conjunction with teaching staff and other members of the Technical Strategy and Operations team in delivering a safe and efficient working environment for teaching of undergraduate students.
The role holder will work with the Technical Manager to oversee and organise the BMBS programme requirements, and will be responsible for training on new equipment, Health and Safety of resources provided and creating Standard Operating Procedures where applicable.
Though based at the St Luke’s LSRC the role will also support the LSRC sites at the RILD Building and the Knowledge Spa.
We are looking for an individual with exceptional communication and time management skills, who will provide professional technical support to staff and students in an education environment. You must be able to work independently, using your initiative to tackle any problems, whilst having the confidence to work collaboratively with technical staff, academic and clinical teaching staff in the Life Science Resource Centre plus other teams within the Medical School and across the University.
This role requires movement of some larger pieces of equipment meaning a good use of manual handling. Training and support will be provided.
We provide full specialist training and, for the right candidate an opportunity for further training or working towards a Professional Registration.
The Life Science Resource Centre Technical Strategy and Operations team work on a flexible rota system between 8am – 7pm.
