About the role

The Centre for Oral, Clinical and Translational Sciences (COCTS) at King’s College London brings together clinical and discovery research aimed at improving oral and dental health through innovation and clinical translation.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate/Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team delivering a digital oral health research project. The post will contribute to the development and evaluation of trustworthy AI approaches that support high-quality clinical documentation and safer decision-making in dental care.

You will help deliver co-design workshops, interviews, requirements gathering, data curation/annotation activities, and contribute to the design and evaluation of human–computer interface prototypes through design sprints and usability testing.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post until December 2027, working at the interface of clinical dentistry, user-centered design, and AI-enabled innovation.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field (e.g., health/biomedical sciences, engineering, psychology/HCI, computer science, or related discipline). For the appointment as the Research Fellow, a PhD degree is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience coordinating complex projects or programmes, including planning, documentation, stakeholder management, and delivering to deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities and maintain reliable tracking systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including producing clear minutes, action logs, and structured documents for diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfort working with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders, with a professional, service-oriented approach.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and responsible handling of sensitive information; willingness to follow research governance and institutional processes.
  • Ability to apply structured problem-solving to improve processes, identify bottlenecks, and propose practical solutions.

Desirable criteria

  • Technical expertise and a record of publications in AI or digital health to work effectively as and with technical contributors.
  • Experience supporting research governance, ethics submissions, information governance, or data access processes in healthcare or academic settings.
  • Experience with quality management or regulated environments (e.g., maintaining SOPs, audit trails, change control, verification/validation documentation).
  • Experience coordinating user research/HCI activities (e.g., workshops, interviews, usability testing) and synthesising findings into actionable requirements.
  • Project management qualification or equivalent project management / translation experience.
