About the Role
This new role will grow and deliver our outreach offer with schools in Tower Hamlets and further afield. Identifying opportunities to expand our offer, make connections with schools and inspire future generations into STEM subjects.
About You
Self motivated individual who can plan and prioritise work alongside building strong networks with teachers and schools. Experience of building audiences, marketing and delivery of science workshops and shows. Delivery will occur at Centre of the Cell and via outreach where travel will be required.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
Centre of the Cell is an informal biomedical science centre, the first in the world to be situated within a working laboratory, the Blizard institute at Queen Mary University of London.
Centre of the Cell’s ambition is to be the best place to learn about biomedical sciences, engaging with the communities of East London and beyond.
We engage with schools and the public through activities in our iconic STEM Pod and Neuron Pod learning environments to deliver our key areas of work:
Centre of the Cell has reached 280,000 participants since opening in 2009 with its activities both onsite and through outreach. Our growing Youth Scheme has a membership of 1200, an active work experience and volunteering programme for 14-19yr olds and an established Summer School.
Our activities are supported by Queen Mary University of London alongside funding from research grants for public engagement and donations from likeminded organisations and individuals.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
