The Faculty of History wishes to recruit a Temporary Assistant Professor in World History who specializes in eighteenth or early nineteenth century history. This is a fixed term 24 month Temporary Assistant Professorship to cover the academic leave of the postholder in 2026-2028.
You will make a significant contribution to our undergraduate courses by delivering lectures and undertaking small-group supervisions and you will be encouraged to develop a module for the MPhil in World History and to contribute to the core course.
You will be expected to undertake supervision of third-year undergraduate dissertations and MPhil theses and will take on examining duties across a range of courses and assessments.
You will assess and register PhD students and may also be asked to serve as internal examiner of PhDs. You will be expected to participate in the Faculty's World History Seminar and to attend other research events, presentations and Faculty meetings.
You will contribute to the administration of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses and may also be expected to take on one of the smaller administrative roles in the Faculty.
We are looking for someone holding, by the start of the appointment, a doctorate in a relevant field and who has outstanding abilities in teaching and research. You will have an exceptional record of research and publications for your career stage and be able to demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching.
