DTU Sustain invites applicants for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position to join the Geotechnics and Geology Section. We are seeking a candidate to lead research, teaching, and innovation within the disciplines of geotechnics and geophysics. You will become part of an academic team working to address major challenges of geotechnical infrastructure, including performance prediction, prolongation of remaining service life, climate resilience, scarcity of natural resources, safety, and sustainability.

Responsibilities and qualifications

The Section for Geotechnics and Geology at DTU Sustain is seeking a new scientific staff member to focus on condition assessment, predictive maintenance, and adaptation design of geostructures such as rail embankments and flood protection dikes, with special attention to both laboratory and field techniques.

The successful candidate should contribute to the following activity areas:

  • Geotechnical education at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels
  • Geotechnical testing in the laboratory and field
  • Data-driven condition assessment of geostructures
  • Predictive maintenance and design adaptation of geostructures
  • Research-based consultancy within geotechnical engineering
  • Geophysical testing in the laboratory and field
  • Geotechnical Engineering under Arctic conditions

The dissemination of research results is expected through scientific publications, conference presentations, interdisciplinary collaborative projects at the national and international levels, and services to public administrations and industry. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to seek and achieve external funding.

Educational responsibilities include developing new teaching materials, delivering classroom lectures, writing and grading exams and reports, as well as supervising student projects. The educational responsibilities will, to the extent possible, be related to the above-listed activity areas; however, flexibility is required. It is expected that the candidate will be able and willing to contribute to a wider spectrum of topics, as covered by the Section’s fields of activity. Please note that the expected teaching language at the Bachelor level is Danish, while at the postgraduate level (MSc or PhD), it is required to be in English.

The position is based at Lyngby Campus, with possible short-duration duties at other DTU campuses, such as Ballerup and Sisimiut (Greenland). Lastly, the candidate is expected to actively seek collaboration with researchers within the Section, researchers from other sections within Sustain, and with researchers from other departments at DTU.

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
