The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. The Estates Department plays a central role in supporting LSHTM’s research, teaching, and operational activities by ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient functioning of the School’s buildings and critical infrastructure. We are seeking an Estates Operations Management Trainee to join the department as part of a structured development pathway designed to build future leaders within Estates.
This five-year fixed-term role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across mechanical and electrical services, compliance, maintenance, asset management, project delivery, sustainability, and operational planning. Working closely with experienced Estates professionals, the trainee will rotate across key functions, contributing to high-quality service delivery while undertaking guided learning and structured professional development.
You should hold a Level 5 qualification (HND/Foundation Degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or related field. You should possess strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a logical and methodical approach to learning new concepts. The post is full time 35 hours per week, 1 FTE and fixed-term until June 2031. This post is available from June 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 5 in the range £39,984 – £45,728 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
