York Law School (YLS) is seeking to appoint two distinguished scholars to join our dynamic, collegial, and intellectually ambitious community. As a Top 25 UK Law School for Research, we are committed to a distinctive vision of law in service of the public good. We are looking for academic leaders who will advance their discipline, shape global research agendas, and enhance our standing as a centre of excellence.

You will provide senior leadership within one or more of our vibrant Research Excellence Groups:

  • Social Welfare, Law and Administrative Justice
  • Health and Law
  • Law and AI
  • Conflict, Migration and International Law
  • Criminalisation
  • Private Law and Values

In addition to your own world-leading scholarship, you will mentor junior colleagues, secure external research funding, and contribute to our newly established Applied Socio-legal Methods Network.

YLS is internationally renowned for our Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach which places rigorous inquiry, collaborative learning and critical reflection at the heart of legal education. Academic colleagues guide students through complex, practice-oriented problems that connect doctrinal analysis with deeper ethical, social and theoretical considerations. This structure supports meaningful connections between research and teaching and provides a stimulating environment for sustained academic engagement.

About You

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in Law or an equivalent research qualification.
  • An outstanding, internationally recognised record of research and publication.
  • Proven experience in securing significant external research grants.
  • Exceptional achievement in curriculum design and innovative teaching.
  • A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
