About us

We’re looking for a Senior Microscopy Technical Specialist to join the Nikon Imaging Centre (NIC) team at King’s College London.

The NIC is an open access core facility for light microscopy, developed and operated as a partnership between King’s College London and Nikon Instruments UK. This partnership allows us to offer the latest light microscopy technologies, along with expertise to our research community. The Centre also acts as a learning hub for our regional corporate partners and contributors, and forms part of the UK Node for Euro-BioImaging.

Our mission is simple: we want to help researchers push the boundaries of what is possible in biological imaging. We do this by providing access to cutting-edge light microscopy equipment and supporting researchers at every stage of their project - from planning to acquisition, analysis and reporting.

About the role

The Senior Microscopy Technical Specialist will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Centre. This includes providing guidance in experimental design and sample preparation, and delivering expert training and support to both new and existing facility users. You will assist with routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, contribute to the running of the tissue culture room and support the facility manager by providing quotes to researchers applying for funding to use the Centre.

The role would suite a highly organised, detail orientated individual who can manage their workload effectively and approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset. Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will work closely with a diverse research community.

The role offers scope for professional development, and the Centre is committed to supporting staff in progressing towards their career goals.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

This is an onsite, facility-based role and the post holder is expected to be on campus for the full working week.
