About us:
At King’s College London (King’s) we invest in our people and our students are at the heart of everything we do. Based in the heart of London, we have a dynamic, distinguished reputation for being a world leader for education. The Directorate of Estates and Facilities is responsible for the management and excellence of the King’s estate and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for its staff, students and visitors.
The Facilities Management Safety and Compliance team leads and manages the provision of health and safety, assurance, compliance and high-level advice to positively influence the health and safety culture and strategy of the directorate to ensure that the directorate meets its legal, statutory compliance obligations and that the quality standards of the university are met.
About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Manager (Construction) to lead and enhance the safe delivery of construction activity across King’s College London’s diverse estate. Reporting to the Head of Technical Compliance, you will provide expert professional advice, assurance and strategic guidance on all aspects of construction health and safety, ensuring Estates & Facilities fulfils its duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the Building Safety Act 2022. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Facilities Management teams and specialist contractors, you will help surface risks, shape safe systems of work, and embed best practice across the directorate.
In this role, you will act as a central point of contact for construction safety matters, developing and maintaining robust arrangements, standards, and risk management frameworks that support legal compliance and operational excellence. You will lead the continual improvement of construction-related safety systems, including contractor management processes, Permit to Work controls and documentation required under CDM and the Building Safety Act.
With responsibility for line managing the Construction Safety Coordinator, you will also provide interpretation of legislation, deliver briefings and training to build competence, and ensure critical safety information, including the ‘golden thread’, is maintained throughout project lifecycles.
You will be instrumental in proactive monitoring activities, undertaking audits, inspections and incident investigations, evaluating performance against KPIs and supporting teams to address actions promptly. You will help ensure the university is fully prepared for regulatory gateway processes through rigorous internal reviews and coordination with relevant project leads. By engaging constructively with stakeholders and external regulators, you will promote a positive construction safety culture and drive continuous improvement across Estates & Facilities construction activities.
This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
