About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Trial Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of a large, UK-wide, multi-centre cluster randomised controlled trial evaluating Community Appointment Days (CADs) for people with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
Working closely with the Chief Investigator and wider multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for the operational management of the trial, ensuring delivery to time, budget and regulatory standards. The study includes an embedded pilot, economic evaluation, mixed-methods process evaluation and a study-within-a-trial, and involves collaboration across 16 NHS sites.
Key responsibilities include site set-up and coordination, trial governance and reporting, oversight of recruitment and retention, data quality and monitoring, liaison with clinical, academic and NHS stakeholders, and support for patient and public involvement activities. You will also contribute to study documentation, ethics and regulatory submissions, and play a central role in supporting knowledge mobilisation activities.
This is an excellent opportunity to manage a high-profile, policy-relevant trial with strong potential for real-world impact on MSK services, health equity and workforce participation.
About You
You will have substantial experience managing complex clinical or health services research studies, ideally including multi-centre randomised controlled trials. You will be highly organised, proactive and confident working across multiple sites and stakeholder groups.
You should have a strong understanding of research governance, ethics and regulatory requirements, excellent communication and relationship-management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Experience of working with NHS organisations, supporting PPIE activity, and coordinating mixed-methods or health economic components is highly desirable.
You will be motivated by applied research that aims to improve patient care, service delivery and health equity, and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
