Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK’s largest and most progressive universities: a community of around 32,000 students, 4,000 staff and 330,000 alumni around the globe. Our ambition is clear and bold – to be a world-leading applied university, transforming lives through real-world impact. Rooted in our region and reaching out across the world, we are driven by our Strategy 2030 and our commitment to enabling healthier lives, building stronger communities and driving future economies.
We are now seeking to appoint a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at a pivotal moment in the University’s development. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Liz Mossop, and serving as a senior member of the University Executive Board, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor will provide visible and inclusive leadership across all aspects of academic life, shaping the strategic development, performance and institutional management of the University. The role encompasses leadership of the academic portfolio to ensure it is high-quality, sustainable and aligned to our Strategy 2030; oversight of the student academic experience; delivery of innovation and digital transformation in provision; and strengthening of our civic mission through effective engagement with regional and national partners, regulators and funders including the Office for Students and UKRI. Working collaboratively across academic and professional services, the postholder will drive performance, foster a One University ethos, and ensure that Sheffield Hallam continues to deliver excellence, impact and value in a challenging external environment.
We are seeking an exceptional academic leader with a strong track record of strategic delivery within a large and complex organisation. You will bring experience of leading transformational change, deep understanding of the higher education landscape, and the commercial and financial acumen required to navigate a challenging environment. A collaborative and emotionally intelligent leadership style will be essential, alongside the ability to inspire colleagues and represent the University with credibility and authority. A demonstrable commitment to equity, inclusion and the civic mission of universities will be central to your approach.
