The role

University of the Arts London is seeking a Year 2 Co-Leader to take shared responsibility for teaching, course development and ongoing scholarship on the BA Interior Design course at Chelsea College of Arts. This role plays a key part in shaping the next generation of interior designers by equipping students with the intellectual, technical and professional skills needed for life beyond UAL.

BA Interior Design at Chelsea College of Arts explores user experience and interaction with objects and spaces through contemporary scenarios. Students engage in a wide range of multidisciplinary design projects, including furniture, product design and large-scale proposals for public and private interiors. Working in partnership with the current senior leader, you will co-lead the studio, provide support to the student cohort and contribute to the delivery of an ambitious and forward-looking curriculum.

Drawing on your specialist skills and expertise, you will help develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions, pushing the boundaries of design education. Much of your work will be centred on knowledge exchange, supporting students to contextualise their practice within technical, social and research-led frameworks. The wider aim of the course is to shape public discourse and generate meaningful change through design, and the postholder will play an active role in increasing the impact of live collaborations with institutions, organisations, design practices and key individuals working in the field.

Your role will be central to the exchange of expert knowledge within a professional infrastructure, connecting teaching practice to design research and the Interior Futures Programme at CCW.

About you

We are looking for a skilled academic practitioner, with previous experience of teaching and assessment in a higher education environment, who can demonstrate an inquiring, innovative and reflexive approach to their teaching. A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity across all areas of work is essential.

You will provide evidence of research, knowledge exchange and/or professional practice that actively contributes to the development of Interior Design and supports the goals of the Programme, College and University.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are also central to success in this role.
