Scientific Training Officer

UK Biobank

At UK Biobank, we enable researchers around the world to explore one of the most valuable biomedical datasets ever created. But access to data alone isn’t enough researchers need clear, accessible training and support to use it effectively.

We’re now looking for a Scientific Training Officer to support UK Biobank’s researcher enablement strategy. This is a newly created role and an exciting opportunity to help shape how our global research community learns, connects, and collaborates.

As a welcoming and inclusive organisation, we value curiosity, clarity, and people who enjoy translating complex scientific information into practical, accessible knowledge.

Can you do it?

You’ll play a central role in managing and developing the UK Biobank Researcher Community portal and forum, ensuring researchers have access to high-quality, up-to-date training materials and guidance.

Acting as a bridge between subject matter experts and end-users, you’ll help translate complex insights into accessible, actionable information. You’ll collaborate closely with Researcher Enablement, Scientific Training, Engagement, RAP, and external partners to ensure the platform aligns with the wider training programme.

This is a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary role that combines content management, user experience improvement, and community engagement.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working across Researcher Enablement, Scientific Training, Engagement, RAP, and external partners to ensure alignment with the wider training programme.
  • Maintaining and updating the Researcher Community portal, ensuring content remains accurate, functional, and current.
  • Coordinating with subject matter experts to develop and publish high-quality training materials and resources.
  • Improving portal usability through feedback analysis, user testing, and feature enhancements.
  • Monitoring and reporting on portal performance and user engagement.
  • Moderating the researcher forum, responding to queries, and ensuring discussions remain constructive and supportive.
  • Acting as a key point of connection between researchers and internal experts.

What is UK Biobank?

Is this you?

To be successful, you will have:

  • An MSc or equivalent qualification in a life sciences or clinical field.
  • Experience supporting life sciences researchers (for example in training, outreach, or customer-facing roles).
  • Experience producing or delivering scientific training materials.
  • Experience working collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Confidence engaging with researchers and translating complex information clearly.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Working hours are 35-hours per week, Monday to Friday with some flexibility, 3 days onsite with hybrid working available. Located in Greater Manchester (initially based in Stockport with a move to Manchester Science Park mid to late 2026). Occasional travel will be required to Oxford, London, and Imaging Centres.
