Sheffield Institute of Education includes a vibrant community of subject specialists who are passionate about shaping the next generation of teachers. We are now seeking an inspiring educator to join our Secondary Education team, with a focus on Secondary Music, to provide maternity cover for the Secondary Music Course Leader.
In this role, you will play a key part in developing confident, creative and reflective trainee teachers. Our PGCE Secondary Music with QTS prepares students to teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities for post‑16 enrichment.
We are looking for someone who brings genuine enthusiasm for music education, holds Qualified Teacher Status, and is excited to contribute to a course that blends subject expertise with professional practice.
The PGCE Secondary Music with QTS recruits through both Lead Partner and Sheffield Hallam routes, offering a rich and varied trainee experience. As part of the team, you will contribute to teaching, learning and assessment at postgraduate level, supporting trainees to thrive academically and professionally.
Depending on your experience and interests, there may also be opportunities to contribute to Primary ITT, Masters and Undergraduate teaching, school visits, and academic advising. If you are committed to high‑quality teacher education and passionate about music education in schools, we would love to hear from you.
We train over 1,000 new Hallam Teachers each year directly through Sheffield Hallam’s core programmes as well as over 2,000 other teachers through various national partnerships. The Institute is home to extensive expertise in inclusion and disability studies as well as all aspects of TESOL education.
Alongside and core to this, our SIoE Research and Knowledge Exchange colleagues bring together experts in research, knowledge exchange and professional development and have a proven track record of delivering educational innovations and evaluations locally, nationally and internationally.
We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.
You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.
If you are, or have been, a recent member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the TPS and remain in the USS. Please contact the Pensions team to discuss options available.
If you are offered this post you will be subject to an enhanced with barred lists check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working at Sheffield Hallam University but its relevance to the duties of the post will need to be assessed before the appointment is confirmed.
