Background

The Estates, Environment and Facilities (EEF) Department is responsible for providing a safe and efficient working environment for all University staff and students. EEF manages all building services and the strategic deve lopment of the estate contributing to the delivery of City St George’s University of London’s strategic and operational objectives.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for performing duties relating to security and public safety within the University. They are to assist in ensuring the provision of a high standard of information and reception services, public safety and security for students, staff and visitors.

You will be expected to work a shift pattern.

Shift Hours are:

Day Team: Mon to Fri 0615-1415hrs/1400-2200hrs Sat & Sun 0700-1900hrs averaging out to 35 hours per week. There is a shift allowance payable.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Previous experience of public safety or security duties
  • Able to respond to dynamic situations quickly, including fire alarm activations, emergency incidents & conflict situations
  • Previous experience of dealing with Fire Evacua tions
  • Ability to move/lift light loads such as tables, chairs, packages/deliveries, operate gates/shutters.
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all customers, both face-to-face and on the telephone. Good listening skills.

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of basic Health & Safety regulations
  • Hold a current Security Industry Authority (SIA) security guard and CCTV licenses. Commitment to pass both courses as part of probationary process
  • Hold a current First Aid at Work Certificate (or must be able to successfully complete the First Aid training course which will be provided within the first six month’s service).
