The Education, Childhood, and Professional Studies Department at Birmingham Newman University is entering an exciting period of growth and development. As part of this dynamic and forward‑looking team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of innovative, research‑informed programmes that prepare future professionals to meet the evolving needs of the education and children’s sectors. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to shape high quality teaching and, influence programme development.
The post holder will have some leadership and management responsibilities and contribute to teaching across a range of modules, providing high quality learning experiences, assessment, supervision, and academic support to students. They will play a key role in course leadership, curriculum development, and ensuring the effective delivery of programmes. Responsibilities include monitoring student progress, participating in examination boards, contributing to recruitment activities, and engaging in quality assurance processes such as moderation and external examiner liaison. The role also involves active engagement in research and scholarship, contributing to ongoing projects, developing academic outputs, and maintaining continuous professional development.
The successful candidate will hold a first degree in a subject relevant to the discipline, and a commitment to undertaking further study and to continuing professional development through research and scholarly activity. They will also have relevant professional experience of teaching in relation to a subject relevant to the discipline at Degree level, knowledge and understanding of recent developments in policy and practice related to the field of education studies, and experience of teaching and/or supporting students in a higher education environment. Experience of using blended learning and e-learning technologies such as virtual learning environments is also essential. An enhanced DBS check will also be undertaken for the successful candidate.
