Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the Post

The Strategic Planning and Performance Analyst plays a key role in supporting the University’s strategic and operational planning processes. They provide analytical expertise to inform student number planning, scenario modelling, and performance monitoring. Working closely with colleagues across faculties and professional services, the Analyst helps ensure that planning outputs are evidence-based, timely, and aligned with institutional priorities.

They contribute to the development and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs), analyse internal and external data trends, and support the preparation of planning documentation and performance reviews. The Analyst works with large datasets to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities, and presents findings in a clear and accessible format. They also collaborate with the Business Intelligence team to develop dashboards and visualisations that support strategic decision-making.

In addition to their core analytical responsibilities, the Analyst engages directly with stakeholders to co-design planning tools, models, and approaches. They help shape the scope of planning discussions by framing questions, selecting appropriate methodologies, and ensuring that outputs are relevant and actionable. The Analyst contributes to decision-making within the Planning function and supports others in making informed choices by providing clear, contextualised analysis.

The Strategic Planning and Performance Analyst also communicates findings to a wide range of audiences, including senior leaders, academic heads, and operational teams. They produce high-quality written reports and deliver presentations that translate complex data into meaningful insights. Their ability to tailor communication to different audiences ensures that data is not only understood but also used effectively to guide decisions – becoming a key business partner to the colleagues they work with. They competently present data and can engage non-specialist stakeholders in mutually beneficial conversations.

The analyst actively engages in continuing professional development (CPD), staying up to date with sector trends, planning methodologies, and analytical tools. They participate in internal and external networks to share learning and adopt best practices. Where appropriate, they also mentor and support colleagues across the function, contributing to a collaborative and data-informed culture across the University.
