About the role
Step into this role at the heart of the student experience, where your words, ideas and creativity shape how thousands of students connect with university life. As a Communications Officer, you’ll be the driving force behind clear, engaging and impactful content – working across various channels and projects to make sure every student feels informed, supported, and inspired, and that the amazing stories in the University community are shared widely.
The Communications Officer will take the lead in writing, creating and distributing content to University students, while championing best practice in internal communications. Alongside this, the role supports the wider Marketing function by assisting in creating content for a range of digital and print channels.
The position sits in the Communications Team, and reports to the Marketing Communications Manager. The role works closely with the Digital team, wider Marketing team, Student Support Services, the Students’ Union, the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and IT. It also liaises with staff and students right across the University.
The position manages the student intranet, student newsletter, display screens, and supports ad-hoc communication requests and institutional projects to ensure that key student-facing initiatives achieve their communications objectives with timely, engaging, and accurate content.
The role holder will plan, write and edit for a variety of internal and external mediums to ensure organisational initiatives and projects are communicated in an engaging, accurate and succinct way by creating and developing content in the form of written content, videos, and photography. The role also supports wider marketing activity and specific elements of public relations initiatives to build, maintain and protect the reputation of the University.
