The University of Sheffield is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and compassionate Research Midwife to support an important study investigating blood and placental markers of preterm birth during the hot and warm months. This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality, clinically relevant research aimed at improving understanding of preterm birth and maternal health outcomes.
The postholder will play a central role in recruiting pregnant women into the study, ensuring an excellent participant experience and high standards of research conduct.
The Role
The Research Midwife will work in antenatal and maternity settings to identify eligible participants and provide information about the study. You will obtain informed consent in line with ethical and regulatory requirements, coordinate the collection of blood samples and placental tissue, and ensure accurate, timely completion of study documentation. The role involves close liaison with obstetric, midwifery, laboratory, and academic staff to support smooth study delivery and the achievement of recruitment targets, particularly during warmer seasons. You will also contribute to maintaining confidentiality, data quality, and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and study protocols.
About You
You will be a Registered Midwife with current NMC registration and recent clinical experience in maternity care. You will have a sound understanding of pregnancy and be confident in engaging sensitively with pregnant women and their families.
Experience in research or participant recruitment is advantageous, along with knowledge of research ethics and governance, including GCP.
You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisational ability, and attention to detail. You should be able to work independently and with initiative, as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary clinical/academic teams. A flexible, proactive approach is essential, with the ability to work between University and NHS sites.
Why Join Us
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research in a supportive environment while maintaining close links with clinical practice. You will be part of a team committed to improving outcomes for mothers and babies.
