This is an interesting and varied role which would suit someone confident and competent around farm livestock, able to prioritise their work unsupervised and maintain high standards of organisation, cleanliness and biosecurity.
The job involves working alongside veterinary surgeons and students, supporting teaching of animal handling and husbandry tasks e.g. disbudding. You will be responsible for the husbandry of our in-patients and running the yard as well as coordinating health and safety for the department.
As departmental health and safety co-ordinator you will develop risk assessments, ensure COSHH reports are complete and manage the safety plan for the department.
Although previous experience is desirable, willingness to promote safety and keep up to date in this area are most important.
You will be given specific training as well as support from the health and safety co-ordinator for the site.
Some experience of foot trimming and disbudding would be advantageous but training can be provided.
Normal working hours are 8am-4pm Monday to Friday, with weekend paid overtime required on a rota basis. There may be other opportunities for overtime at the university farms.
