About the role
The Sociology and Criminology Department at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Criminology (Education and Scholarship), for a part time, fixed term position.
You will contribute to teaching criminology. You will deliver lectures, seminars and dissertation supervision, support students, and engage in marking and assessment.
You will join a friendly and supportive Sociology and Criminology Department with a strong commitment to high quality teaching and student support.
About you
You will hold a PhD in Criminology or a related discipline. You will have some previous experience in teaching within a higher education setting.
You will have good communication skills and a demonstrable capacity for supporting students. An ability to work productively as part of a friendly, team-oriented Department is an essential skill for this role.
About our School
The Dept of Sociology and Criminology a well-established and successful research-led department with a record of excellence in research assessment exercises and in teaching. We are home to 30 faculty and around 450 students at any one time. We have two thriving Masters programmes in Gender Studies and Criminology which both recruit between 15 and 20 students each in any given year. We have a diverse research culture and diverse research interests. We have aim to push the boundaries of research and of research-led teaching. We performed well in the last NSS, improving our scores in almost every category from the previous year. Our research (as submitted to UoA21, Sociology) was assessed overall to be 45% ‘world leading’ (4*) and 40% ‘internationally excellent’ (3*). In particular, 100% of our impact case studies were assessed as outstanding (4*).
