Main duties and responsibilities
We are recruiting an IP and Commercialisation Manager in our Innovation team within Research and Enterprise Services. The role will lead our Intellectual Property (IP) and Commercialisation activities and will be responsible for generating income and impact through the exploitation of University IP. Working with academic colleagues, postgraduate research students, potential partners and external bodies, the IP and Commercialisation Manager will exploit the University’s IP in support of the Department’s targets and University’s Strategy. This activity includes supporting creators of IP to apply for funding, find suitable potential licensees and to prepare suitable business cases and plans to support commercialisation ambitions for the University, including licensing and spin-out venture formation.
Skills and experience required
The postholder will have a strong track record of success in IP and commercialisation. They will be substantially experienced in IP protection and commercialisation processes including the development of business plans, spin out formation, licensing, patenting, and associated contractual requirements. The postholder will demonstrate sound business acumen, making informed decisions based on data, assessment of risk and financial factors. The postholder will work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including staff, investors, and external clients. The postholder will also be highly self-motivated, professional, and fully committed to delivering a high-quality service with a commitment to the University values.
Qualifications required
Educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent professional qualifications or proven relevant experience
