Research Officer in African Health Economics and Diagnostics, AHEaD Project

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 3 years

We invite applications for a Research Officer to join a Welcome Trust-funded project on African Health Economics and Diagnostics (AHEaD). The project aims to generate robust economic evidence on the health and economic benefits of improved access to point-of-care diagnostics (POCTs) across Africa.

Working independently under the guidance of the Principal Investigator at LSE Health, you will:

• Lead and co-author research papers on the economics, policy, and equity impacts of point-of-care diagnostics in Africa.
• Design and conduct economic evaluations (cost-effectiveness, cost–benefit, and investment cases) of diagnostic interventions.
• Contribute to mixed-methods studies, including qualitative (interviews, focus group discussions) and quantitative (surveys, discrete choice experiments) approaches.
• Develop and apply models to assess the health and macroeconomic benefits of scaling up diagnostic access and manufacturing.
• Support the collection, cleaning, and analysis of primary and secondary data from multi-country field sites.
• Coordinate research activities and communication across project sites and collaborating institutions.
• Prepare briefing notes, policy summaries, and presentations for ministries of health, donors, and research partners.

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree Health Economics, Economics, Public Health, Health Policy, or Development Economics or a closely related discipline. You should have extensive experience in economic evaluation methods (micro or macro), and/or the methodologies used in political economic analysis; proven skills in quantitative analysis using software such as Stata, R, or Python and experience working with or in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) health systems, ideally in Africa.
