The University intends to appoint the Norman Collisson Professor of Musculoskeletal Science. The Professor must be medically qualified and practice clinically in the field of inflammatory arthritis.

This is an important statutory post in the department and was created in 2001 as a result of an endowment from the late Norman Collisson. The post is based in the Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Science (NDORMS). The appointee is expected to further develop clinical academic rheumatology within NDORMS and Oxford, and grow clinical trials and translational studies in rheumatology, facilitating close collaborations between the Botnar Institute, Kennedy Institute and the NHS in Oxford. The aim is to recruit an internationally outstanding clinical academic leader with a proven record of success in the field of rheumatological clinical science who can work at the University/NHS interface to build translational research impact nationally and globally.

The Professor will be expected to contribute to the development of existing and emerging strengths within the Department and the wider University, and raise funding from multiple funders. 

The post is associated with St Peter’s College. Nearly every subject studied at the University is represented in St Peter's. As a strong and international academic community, it fosters intellectual rigour, creativity, and independence in its students, teachers, and researchers. 

This academic post is a for a medically qualified doctor with specialist training in rheumatology and able to work at consultant level in the NHS. The post holder will need to be eligible to hold an honorary rheumatology consultant contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will be expected to deliver a clinical service component as part of their job plan.
