This post is fixed term until March 2028.
Applications are invited for a Senior Animal Technician to join our modern facility in South Cambridge. As part of a dedicated and friendly core facility team, you will play a key role in supporting metabolic phenotyping studies for research groups within the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science-Metabolic Research Laboratories (IMS MRL) and the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit (MRC MDU).
Your responsibilities will include carrying out regulated and non regulated procedures to support metabolic research projects, maintaining high standards of animal care, managing consumables and equipment, and keeping accurate records in line with Home Office legislation and University health and safety policies. You will also contribute to maintaining shared facility spaces and may occasionally be required to provide out of hours support both remotely and on site.
You will be educated to A Level/NVQ Level 3 or have equivalent practical experience. Experience working in a specialised animal research facility, including familiarity with associated metabolic phenotyping procedures and equipment, is essential. You must also have good IT skills and be able to demonstrate critical understanding of key concepts, processes and principles related to animal technician work and metabolic research.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role requires both close teamwork and periods of independent work with minimal supervision.
You will be conscientious, well organised, and able to deliver work with a high degree of precision and accuracy while managing multiple tasks. The role holder will also be expected to deputise in the absence of the Chief Technician, scheduling tasks and managing equipment and any operational issues.
Training will be provided, and you will have access to a range of opportunities for personal and professional development.
Once an offer is accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check), a health assessment and a security check.
