Lecturer in Coronial Law

About the Role

The Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law at the University of Greater Manchester is seeking to appoint a committed Lecturer in Coronial Law to join our expanding academic team. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality teaching, research, and knowledge exchange within the specialist field of coronial law and related areas, including inquests, death investigation systems, medico-legal processes, and public law.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and workshops in Coronial Law and Investigation of Death.
• Develop new teaching materials, module content, and assessment strategies.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
• Engage in high-quality research leading to publication in reputable academic journals.
• Contribute to the Centre’s research themes and participate in grant-funding opportunities.
• Undertake personal tutoring and academic support for students.
• Engage with professional bodies and coroners’ courts to enhance teaching and impact.
• Participate in departmental and university-wide administrative duties.

Essential Criteria

• A PhD (or near completion) in Law or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise or professional experience within the coronial system or medico-legal investigation.
• Evidence of high-quality teaching or potential for excellent teaching.
• A developing research profile with publications or strong potential for publication.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience working with coroners’ courts, public inquiries, or related legal practice.
• A teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one.
• Evidence of research impact or policy engagement.
• Experience supervising student research projects.
