The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

The post-holder will provide comprehensive administrative to Professor Catherine Harmer, and the PERL Research Group, managing office operations and coordinating processes to ensure the effective delivery of administrative services.

About the Role 

The post is funded to 31 March 2028 and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital. The post is available on a flexible hybrid basis with a minimum of 1-2 days per week in the office depending on working pattern.

You will provide comprehensive administrative support acting as a key point of knowledge and advice while supporting a broad range of research studies and meetings. This will include managing complex diary arrangements and responding to communications on behalf of Professor Harmer.

You will organise meetings, committees, events and conferences, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, coordinating logistics and ensuring follow-up actions are completed. You will support project coordination and planning, including monitoring budgets and metrics, liaising with finance teams, assisting with grant applications, and contributing to reports, presentations and publications.

About You

You will have proven experience of supporting a senior member of staff, with extensive expertise in diary and meeting management, including complex travel arrangements. You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to draft correspondence, produce well-presented reports, and build effective professional relationships.

With excellent organisational skills, you will be able to manage a varied and demanding workload, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You will have ability to resolve administrative issues independently, along with strong numeracy and IT skills. Previous experience working in a medical medical/academic/research environment or managing research team operations and administration would be desirable
