The School of Biological Sciences seeks to appoint a highly motivated and successful biomedical scientist ready to take up a post within the Division of Biomedical Sciences & Biomedical Engineering. The town of Reading occupies a critical, high-growth position within the Thames Valley biotechnology sector having carved out a distinct identity as the region's commercialisation and tech-integration powerhouse, particularly in the life sciences. As an Associate Professor, the appointee will play a pivotal role in expanding our School’s growing footprint with this important biotechnology landscape and will contribute to the division’s research by building on one of the existing strengths within the school, which are focussed on Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Infection, and Neurobiology. They will also deliver teaching on our taught programmes, particularly our MSc in Biotechnology which, taught in conjunction with colleagues in the Henley Business School, blends biology with business, focusing on how to take drugs to market and the "business of health."
The successful candidate will have a strong background having led a team in a biomedical research environment leading to industrial exploitations. Their background is likely to have been within, or involved extensive collaboration with, the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector and we welcome applications from candidates currently working in industry. They will bring their own, independent research programme to Reading and make a significant contribution by adding something new to the established areas of research excellence within the Division of Biomedical Sciences & Biomedical Engineering.
