This role is to support a network of academic, public sector and commercial organisations (Space4Climate members) that seek to accelerate the use of data from Earth observation satellites for climate services. Space4Climate is hosted by the National Centre for Earth Observation in the Meteorology Department at the University of Reading, which is where the main place of work will be. You will support Space4Climate’s activities focused on removing the barriers to exploitation of climate data for policy, services and net-zero-carbon transition.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a small, dynamic team and is confident engaging with people, including leading figures in science, industry and policy. There will be opportunities for public speaking and knowledge sharing. Experience in public speaking is desirable, but we are willing to mentor the right candidate to help develop the skills required.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Support Space4Climate in market research activities by analysing data and information in order to identify competitors and sector opportunities for the use of data from space
  • Provide administrative support for the Climate Services Development Manager & Communications and Engagement Manager
  • Provide member coordination for events and workshops (in person and online using Teams) as required, and help capture media (photos, film) and quotes for use online and for PR.
  • Help ensure all policies are followed correctly, identifying any potential compliance issues and escalating matters to the Climate Services Development Manager as required
  • Help create materials and visuals for communicating key messages to a range of audiences
  • Manage the group's climate services directory and website as required
  • Deputise where requested for Space4Climate Services Development Manager or communication lead.
