Are you an academic with proven abilities to carry out teaching and scholarship activities in communication and media?  

Can you pursue, develop and take forward pedagogic developments that engage with active learning and applied approaches to learning, teaching and assessment? Can you teach undergraduates and/or postgraduates in communication and media? Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience in a research-intensive Russell Group University?

As a Lecturer (T&S) in Communication and Media you will teach, develop curricula and provide expertise in communication and media theory and/or research methods. Your delivery of education will be enquiry-led and will provide innovative learning experiences for students. You will have the opportunity to develop critically informed scholarship, pedagogic innovation, and teaching, learning and assessment experimentation. You will be expected to work with colleagues to develop our international profile and reputation for academic excellence.

The School of Media and Communication is a highly ranked department with a commitment to excellence in both research and education. We are ranked 4th in the UK for Communication and Media Studies (The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026) and 33rd in the world for Communication and Media Studies (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026). In the last Research Excellence Framework exercise, 87.5% of our research was judged to be either ‘world leading’ or ‘international’

We seek to appoint a Lecturer (T&S) in Communication and Media to teach, develop curricula, provide scholarship contributions to our education and hold expertise in. communication and media theory and/or research methods. Working in a research and scholarship-based context, you will create innovative opportunities for students to develop scholarship-informed skills. Your profile may demonstrate engagement with industry, external partners or third sector. We are open to hearing from candidates with a wide range of critically informed expertise.

You will be expected to ensure that your teaching reflects current scholarship and professional practice and understand digital and creative pedagogy. You will be expected to contribute to quality assurance processes, including student tracking and progression. With proven ability to teach in Higher Education, you will possess the ability and experience to familiarise students with current theory, methods and skills for media and communication studies. You may have professional experience of media and communication relevant to students seeking employment, and a good knowledge of industry requirements.
