Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield 

Main duties and responsibilities

You will manage the operation of the School’s Loan Store facilities and equipment and provide technical support in the supervision of students, and preparation of equipment for teaching, research, consultancy, short course activities and other projects including Propeller within the specialist area and, when required, elsewhere within the School. You will design relevant content for taught sessions demonstrate a range of film and television production post-production software and equipment (Camera, Lighting, Sound, Grip, TV Studio). You will ensure that current Health & Safety legislation and regulations are complied with, local codes of practice are followed, and relevant records are kept and assist with the coordination and preparation of module teaching and learning activities. Additional responsibilities include supporting Open and Applicant Days. Additional duties may include a certain amount of manual handling and other tasks as requested within the framework of the post. 

Skills and experience required

You will have substantial experience of working in a technical role within higher‑education, alongside advanced proficiency in a range of industry-standard post-production software (such as AVID Media Composer). You will have proficiency in operating and managing high-end industry-standard Film & TV equipment and edit facilities; as well as audio equipment and facilities for the Music department.

Good numeracy skills are essential, as are excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines.

You will be able to communicate effectively with external contacts, students at all levels, and with academic and technical colleagues and be able to follow detailed instructions comprehensively. The ability to write accurate Risk Assessments and SOPs is essential. You will be flexible and adaptable to workload and team requirements with good organisational skills and the ability to acquire new skills and learn new techniques.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with a minimum of a HND/Degree/NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in Film & TV or a relevant subject or proven experience. An IOSH Managing Safely or similar qualification or working towards it is desirable.
