The role

Our School of Engineering and Built Environment, based in the College of Business, Technology and Engineering, encompasses a range of subject areas including Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechatronics.

We are recruiting for a Lecturer to join our existing team and welcome applications from candidates with practical experience in:

  • Power Systems & Machines
  • Analogue & Digital Electronics
  • Control & Automation

You should have an awareness of the current trends, issues and developments in electrical/electronic engineering, both nationally and internationally, and will be expected to demonstrate an applied understanding of current industry developments during the selection process.

You do not need previous experience of teaching, as this is a great opportunity for an applicant with practical industry experience, or you may be a professional already teaching in an FE environment, with a desire to inspire the next generation of Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineers.

We work closely with colleagues in the Power Electrical & Control Engineering Subject group on the delivery of the CEng accredited BEng/MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the BEng Electrical Engineering (top-up), and the BEng Mechatronics.

The subject group also leads the MSc Electrical & Electronic Engineering course and teaches extensively across the MSc Engineering portfolio as well as the Degree Apprenticeship Programs.

We also make a significant contribution to other engineering BEng and MSc programmes in the department and the delivery of degree apprenticeship courses across the University.

Our expertise is focused in the following areas: ⎯ Analogue and Digital electronic engineering ⎯ Computer and Network engineering ⎯ Communication systems ⎯ Embedded systems and Microprocessor engineering ⎯ Systems simulation and Modelling.

The team

You will be a key member of the Electrical Electronic and Future Technologies team, helping to maintain and expand the success of the department's courses in this area.

We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.

The University currently enrols eligible academic staff into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), a defined-benefit pension scheme.

Find out more about the TPS

Like many universities, we are facing well‑documented financial challenges and are entering a period of negotiation with our recognised Trade Unions, including consideration of pension affordability for modern universities. We remain committed to providing our staff with a competitive reward and benefit offer.

The University may be able to sponsor the employment of international applicants in this role; this will depend on a number of factors specific to the individual applicant.

We welcome applications for job-share, part-time and flexible working arrangements.
