We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
The Role
Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Lecturer T&S (Fixed Term) to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School.
We are looking for an individual with a PhD in law (or near completion) with an emerging research profile who can contribute to the teaching of Law & Ethics (a Stage 1 compulsory module introducing students to theories of legal reasoning and the role of ethics in legal reasoning). Ability to deliver the Animal Rights Law module or to contribute to other teaching on the undergraduate LLB degree is highly desirable. This is a 12-month fixed-term post (September 1st 2026 to Aug 28th 2027) funded by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship. The post is primarily to cover replacement teaching and administrative responsibilities, but the successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with colleagues in the Law School to develop their own research/scholarship.
Newcastle Law School is a globally connected, locally rooted and compassionate community. We embed our values in all that we do: Challenge; Social Justice; Compassion; Wellbeing; Excellence; Responsibility; and Respect. We embrace diversity and advance social justice by addressing contemporary and future challenges through our research, our scholarship, our engagement with partners, and as a lasting impact of our legal education.
We want to appoint someone who shares our values, and who will work with us to realise them across all our areas of activity. We are particularly interested in the strengths and lived experiences of researchers from different ethnic groups and cultures to broaden the diversity of Newcastle Law School, as we strive to avoid perpetuating biases and oversights on legal research and legal education.
If you see yourself in the above description, then please get in touch and consider applying. If you would like a confidential discussion about this role please contact Samantha Ryan, Head of Newcastle Law School at samantha.ryan@newcastle.ac.uk.
Interviews are expected to be held week commencing 8th June 2026.
