Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Assistant to join the Nixon-Abell Laboratory at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. Our work sits at the interface between cell biology and molecular neuroscience. We employ integrated experimental approaches to understand organelle interactions and dynamics in neurons, and how they are corrupted in neurodegenerative diseases.
The successful candidate will work closely with several post-doctoral researchers to conduct and coordinate experiments while performing key duties to support the laboratory (iPSC tissue culture, molecular biology, laboratory management). The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to work on their own dedicated research project, with the goal of producing rigorous and impactful research and publications. The candidate will form part of a vibrant and interdisciplinary team and receive expert training and guidance to develop skills in stem cell culture, neuronal differentiation, molecular biology, CRISPR engineering, and advanced microscopy.
All applicants must hold at minimum a MSc/MPhil in cell biology and/or neuroscience and have prior experience with advanced microscopy. Excellent record keeping, organisational skills, and communication ability are essential.
The Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and it is a collaborative institute at the interface between fundamental research and the clinic, with a mission to determine the molecular mechanisms of disease in order to advance human health.
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for 1 year in the first instance, but with the potential for extension.
