The Department of Earth Sciences is seeking to appoint an Outreach and Communications Manager to provide experienced leadership and strategic planning for the various channels through which the department engages with prospective students, alumni and former staff, industry contacts, teachers, recruiters, press, philanthropists and the general public.
The post-holder will be organized, innovative and self-motivated, capable of working independently and have the confidence to initiate new projects while delivering on current plans.
They will be responsible for two members of staff, and will work routinely with the Head of Administration and Finance, Chair of the EEDI Committee, and will also engage widely with administrative staff and academics in the Department, as well as colleagues in the University’s Alumni Office, Development Offices, Public Affairs Directorate, Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Offices, Division (MPLS) and staff in similar roles in other departments.
About you
You must be educated to degree level or equivalent, and must have experience of either outreach to schools, alumni relations or working with students in a higher educational institute.
You will have expertise in initiating, planning and delivering highly successful, innovative and tailored events, targeted at different audiences in a variety of locations.
You will also have excellent communication skills across a range of media, with an ability to express scientific academic, or similarly specialist and complex, projects clearly to specialists and non-specialists alike.
