Salary: Research Grade 7: £39,424 - £47,779 with a discretionary range to £53,483 p.a. This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year.
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist – Epigenetics, to join Professor Richard White’s group. Richard White’s lab studies how developmental and microenvironmental programs promote cancer. These programs endow cancer cells with plasticity, allowing them to take on new phenotypes above and beyond DNA mutations. We primarily study this using model organisms and human iPS cell models of cancer.
We are interested in exploring epigenetic mechanisms in development, regeneration and cancer. There are common yet distinct mechanisms in each of these contexts, which ultimately drive cell plasticity, but the mechanisms by which they act still remain elusive.
You will be responsible for managing your own research, including design and performing research utilizing cancer cell lines and human iPS models of cancer. You will adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. You will actively contribute ideas for new research projects and collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters.
As part of this role, you will supervise, advise and train junior staff in cell/molecular biology/biochemistry techniques and protocols.
It is essential that you hold (or are close to completion) a PhD/DPhil in Epigenetics or a life sciences subject. Expertise in Epigenetics (histone methylation/demethylation, ChIP-seq) experience in using models such as cell culture and novel organisms, and genetic manipulation techniques including CRISPR and shRNA are also required.
Applications for this vacancy should be made online (via the 'Apply' button above) and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 36 months and is funded by Ludwig.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 27 May 2026 will be considered. Please quote 186090 on all correspondence.
