About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious Lecturer in Implementation Science/Applied Social Science (Health) for a substantive appointment within the Centre for Bone & Joint Health at the Blizard Institute, QMUL. This post is designed to support transition to research independence through leadership of a major funded workstream and development of an externally funded research portfolio.

For the first two years, the postholder will lead the delivery of a multi-site process evaluation within an NIHR-funded programme examining the effectiveness of Community Appointment Days vs standard care (physiotherapy) for people with musculoskeletal conditions across 16 NHS Trusts. This will involve delivery of the Normalization Process Theory informed mixed methods evaluation to protocol in close collaboration with clinical, academic and patient partners.

In year two the postholder will contribute implementation science/applied social science expertise to new grant applications in collaboration with colleagues in the Centre.

From year three onwards, the postholder will be supported to develop and submit competitive external funding applications aligned with the Centre’s strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery through to publication of an NIHR-funded process evaluation.
  • Contribute to new research bid development within the Centre.
  • Develop an independent research trajectory including preparation of external funding applications.
  • Contribute to teaching, supervision and academic citizenship as appropriate.

About You

You will hold a PhD in implementation science, applied social science (health), or a closely related field. You will have experience of leading or contributing substantially to mixed-methods research in healthcare settings, ideally including process evaluations of complex interventions.

You will demonstrate strong project management skills, the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and organisations, and a developing publication record. Experience of working with NHS partners and engaging public contributors is highly desirable.

Crucially, you will show clear research ambition aligned to bone and joint health and a commitment to progressing towards research independence, including developing competitive external funding applications.
