The Cardiff School of Chemistry wishes to appoint a fixed-term Chemistry Lecturer to assist with the preparation, co-ordination and delivery of chemistry programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level through the medium of Welsh. The post is generously funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
The post-holder will work closely with other staff in the School who will assist in the responsibility of developing Welsh medium provision in Chemistry and establishing a new Welsh Medium Strategy Group for the School as the principle framework to deliver the new content. As part of this role, the post holder will also have responsibility for liaising with Welsh-speaking potential applicants in Open Days and through engagement with Welsh-medium Schools; e.g. by teaching research skills workshops to teachers and students who study the Welsh Baccalaureate. The successful candidate will also represent the School and College at events, including National Eisteddfodau, that promote awareness of Welsh provision in STEM subjects at Cardiff University, and promotion of Welsh-medium Chemistry programmes in Welsh medium schools. More generally, the role holder will act as a highly visible Welsh language champion not only for the School of chemistry but also for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. The successful appointee will be expected to develop and deliver lectures and tutorials through the medium of Welsh and assist in UG project supervision. There will be additional responsibilities for the development and improvement of teaching materials and course design; the appointee will therefore be expected to collaborate in these areas with current members of staff.
