The physiotherapy programme is based within the School of Allied Health at AUT and offers programmes in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, and postgraduate rehabilitation, and integrates strong clinical practice with research-led teaching.
The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi
AUT is seeking to appoint a permanent, full-time academic at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor level in physiotherapy, based at the North Shore campus in Auckland. This role provides the opportunity to contribute across teaching, research, and service, with a strong focus on cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Key areas include acute and chronic cardiorespiratory conditions, critical and acute care practice, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and inter-professional models of care.
The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum design and delivery across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes using practice-led and research-informed approaches, including digital learning tools. The role involves active research engagement, publication, and progression toward securing external research funding. Senior academic appointments are expected to provide leadership in teaching and research, including postgraduate supervision and mentoring of staff. Over time, staff will be expected to develop strong external partnerships with government, industry, and professional bodies to strengthen the School’s research impact and profile.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or be nearing completion) in Physiotherapy or a related field, along with registration or eligibility for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate. You will have clinical expertise in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy and demonstrate appropriate teaching, research, and academic capability.
Early career applicants may demonstrate emerging teaching and research experience, while senior candidates should show established academic leadership, curriculum development experience, postgraduate supervision, and a strong publication record, including success in securing external research funding. Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, along with the ability to work across disciplines and with external partners.
