The Faculty of Social Science invites applications for the post of Professor. The appointee will be expected to serve as the inaugural Director for the new inter-Faculty undergraduate programme in Diplomacy and International Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). This innovative programme aims to nurture high-level, interdisciplinary talent who are proficient in both Chinese and Western cultures and are prepared to excel in international relations, international organizations and diplomatic arenas. With a particular focus on China’s role in global governance, the programme sees to students’ developing a deep understanding of the historical, cultural, and political dimensions of China’s engagement in international affairs. The Faculty is seeking a visionary leader with demonstrated commitment to teaching, programme management, and the development of this distinctive new initiative. The appointee will be responsible for

  • Leading the development and continuous improvement of the new inter-Faculty undergraduate programme in meeting international standards;
  • Fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to ensure the development of and adherence to the international standards in research and teaching;
  • Providing leadership and strategic direction in alignment with the academic missions of CUHK and the participating Faculties; and
  • Enhancing global connections in the field of international studies and diplomacy. 

Applicants are expected to have:

  • A PhD degree in International Relations/International Law or related disciplines;
  • A distinguished record of academic achievements and international recognition in research, scholarship and teaching;
  • Proven record of leadership and extensive administrative experience at senior levels, preferably in a prominent research institution;
  • Demonstrated ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration; and
  • Strong international network and experience in programme development. 

Appointment is targeted to start in August 2026 or as soon as practicable thereafter. Outstanding candidate may be specially considered for substantive appointment forthwith.
