We are seeking diligent, customer-focussed, and motivated Technicians to join our Campus Safety, Security and Site Services team. The roles are full-time, working 36.5 hours per week, during all the weekdays throughout the year including bank holidays. The role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards of customer service, within a safe, caring and clean environment.
The Campus Safety, Security, and Site Services Technicians play a vital role in maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities (please see the attached job description for full details):
- Supervising the work of colleagues to ensure that defined standards of service are met, ensuring work is conducted in accordance with established policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Ensuring compliance with safety policies, conducting checks to ensure adherence to university health and safety policies, and ensuring that a safe, clean working environment is maintained for the university’s students, staff and visitors. Taking immediate remedial actions as necessary.
- Conducting and overseeing regular patrols on foot, ensuring that these are completed to required standards.
- Responding swiftly to security incidents, fire events, and other emergencies including first aid and mental health first aid responses.
- Coordinate and completing moving of furniture, setting up rooms, and supporting campus logistics, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. This work involves the driving of cars and vans.
- Supervision and delivery of the University’s mail and parcel handling service.
- Complete and supervise the use of surveillance systems (e.g. CCTV), completing formal logging of actions/incidents using computer-based systems, generating computer reports and other data, and assisting with reviews and ensuring colleagues monitor campus areas effectively.
- Supervise and assist in managing traffic flow and enforcing parking regulations, ensuring policies are applied consistently. Issue warning notices and Penalty Charge Notices where users have not complied with the University traffic and parking regulations.
- To maintain a consistently high standard of work, in adherence to Infrastructure Services core values.
Person Specification
- Previous customer service, safety, security, or portering experience is desirable, though not essential, as training will be provided.
- Must hold a full valid car driving licence. This is essential.
- Previous experience of supervising the work of others is desirable.
- Previous experience of providing first aid and mental health first aid is desirable though not essential, as training will be provided.
- Able to remain calm and reassure those in distress, provide assistance, recognising the limits of own ability and responsibility, and signpost/refer to others where appropriate.
- Previous experience of cleaning internal and external locations (i.e. pressure washing, litter picking etc.) is desirable though not essential, as training will be provided.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a professional manner at all times.
