Our work spans the fundamental molecular, cellular and physiological mechanisms that drive normal and abnormal cardiovascular and metabolic function. SCMMS also offers extensive collaborative expertise in data science, advanced imaging and precision surgical approaches. This includes the integration of AI‑driven analytics, high‑resolution imaging technologies and computational modelling to advance personalised cardiovascular care. Together, these capabilities support fully integrated, data‑enabled and precision‑focused translational research across the surgical pathway.

The School spans the Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill campuses of King’s College London and comprises more than 65 academic groups, with 400 staff and 110 PhD students.

About The Role

The Academic Department of Vascular Surgery seeks to appoint an enthusiastic Clinical Research Fellow to join the team at St Thomas’ Hospital, where the postholder will undertake original research.  

The role involves developing the project’s work programme in collaboration with project leads, working closely with the Principal Investigators to refine the research protocol, and ensuring that all research components are delivered efficiently and effectively. The postholder will co‑ordinate the activities associated with the research project, maintain close communication with colleagues working within the research area, and review relevant literature, including synthesising and reporting on findings from related work.

The role also requires adherence to Good Clinical Practice as well as local and national governance guidelines relating to clinical research. The postholder will oversee and lead the collection and analysis of data, prepare progress reports, and take responsibility for drafting conference papers and publications. They will present research findings to a range of audiences, attend relevant conferences, and contribute to the development of future research proposals. Where agreed with project supervisors, the postholder will supervise MSc and BSc students. A commitment to maintaining health and safety standards, safeguarding the wellbeing of others in the work environment, and upholding confidentiality at all times is essential. The postholder may also be required to undertake any other reasonable duties relevant to the role.

This is a full-time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for two years from start of contract.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
