Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 8th June 2026

We have an exciting opportunity at the School of Medicine and Population Health (Division of Population Health) for a Research Assistant eager to apply their behavioural science skills to public health. This role is for the Wellcome-funded project “A novel interdisciplinary approach to understanding how contextual factors influence alcohol consumption.” This project aims to develop an innovative computer model that links moment-to-moment, context-sensitive, alcohol-related decisions to population-level consumption patterns. The model will also be used to assess the impact of new alcohol policies.

You will assist with the project and play a central role in a longitudinal study that collects real-time behavioural data on participants’ alcohol-related decisions using smartphones. Tasks involve managing participant recruitment through Prolific, prioritising daily study operations, monitoring adherence and retention, and preparing large datasets by cleaning, harmonising, and combining multiple sources. The position also includes supporting research governance, conducting statistical analysis, disseminating results, and coordinating a workshop with public health policy participants, practitioners, researchers, and individuals with lived experience of alcohol harm.

A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as psychology, behavioural science, public health, health economics, or another quantitative subject area such as data science is essential, as is proficiency in online participant recruitment, competence in managing longitudinal studies, skilled in data analysis using R or Python and the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats and to diverse audiences.

You will become part of the Sheffield Addictions Research Group (SARG), a cross-functional team whose efforts guide policy and practice across the UK, with access to training and development opportunities.

At the University of Sheffield, we believe in encouraging a collaborative and inclusive environment where your skills and aspirations can thrive. Our team is committed to making a real-world impact through rigorous and innovative research. You will be part of an ambitious project that aims to influence public health policies and improve societal well-being. With access to world-class training and development opportunities, you can grow your expertise and contribute to groundbreaking work. Join us and be a part of a highly skilled team working towards a healthier future!
