About the role:

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Computer Science to enhance and strengthen our research and teaching capacities in the areas of software engineering, cybersecurity or artificial intelligence.

You will be:

  • Working to design and deliver innovative teaching on these topics that prepares and inspires undergraduate and postgraduate students to pursue careers in the sector.
  • Asked to design and engaging in student recruitment activities, demonstrating enthusiasm and passion for your subject area.

This teaching should reflect the focus on experiential learning at the University of Plymouth. It should also be informed by your research in these topics, collaborating with academics (both internally and externally) and industry to achieve real impact in the sector.

You will be encouraged throughout teaching, research and recruitment activities to maximise the benefits gained from the university’s wide range of computer science related facilities including:

  • Specialised computer science laboratories.
  • State-of-the-art server infrastructure and high-performance computing facility.

As a lecturer, you will:

  • Take responsibility for leading and managing these activities, while reporting to members of the school leadership team and working with staff from across the university.
  • Design and deliver innovative teaching based on you research and / or experience in the sector.
  • Develop and lead research impactful to sector, collaborating with academics and industry, both nationally and internationally.
  • Inspire new students to study computer science at the University of Plymouth through engagement in recruitment activities.

Due to the nature of the role, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate working from home.

You may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

You should:

  • Hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
  • Have demonstratable enthusiasm for developing and delivering experiential and inspirational teaching that is informed by research and /or industrial experience.
  • Either have a track record of engaging with industry partners to develop and deliver innovative research that has meaningful impact or be able to demonstrate the aptitude to build this engagement.
  • Have a track record of attracting funding to support research or be able to present a plan on how you will do this.
