The Role

We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Lecturer in Media Content to join the Department of Journalism, Publishing and Media in the School of Creative and Cultural Industries at Kingston School of Art.

This is a career-defining opportunity for a media content professional to join a department that consists of a dynamic group of dedicated, experienced and energetic teachers and practitioners who inspire their students and help them to achieve successful careers in the content, journalism, media and communication industries. You’ll join a varied programme of practice-led teaching that seeks to bring professional practices into the classroom.

ou will lead, plan, deliver and assess a range of modules on our undergraduate and postgraduate media and journalism degree programmes with practice at every level including: content creation, audio, video and social media storytelling and production. You will use a variety of technologies and approaches to deliver a lively education to your students that can be translated into real-world skills.

The Person

You will be an experienced media professional, content creator or journalist with a proven current record of employment in an integrated newsroom, creative agency, media production company or social media department with experience of working across social media, audio and video content creation, production and strategy. You will be up to date with changes in the media, journalism and content industries and will be interested in preparing graduates for working in these fast-evolving environments.

Expertise working in social media content creation, production and management, audio and video production are important. Knowledge of audience development and strategic content is also desirable. You should be interested in working with students in the classroom to originate and produce real-life outputs such as video, social media, podcasts, newsletters etc.

You may be new to teaching in higher education, and we welcome applicants who are transitioning from industry. You should be able to demonstrate some experience of teaching or mentoring or show a clear interest in developing this aspect. What matters most is your ability to apply your industry experience to real-world challenges and to support students in developing their own skills and knowledge.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they meet the Kingston University standards in learning and teaching, and research. By the end of the probation period, you must have achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition (if this has not already been obtained).

This is a permanent, part-time position (29.60 hours or 4 days per week), with a starting salary of £36,020 per annum (80% pro rata to £45,025 per annum).
